May Celebration Weekend - Family Fun Day
Whether you wanted to throw a ball, run obstacle courses, pop
balloons or play goofy games, there was something for everyone at
the Founders' Fund Family Fun Day, Sunday, May 4th. The event was
sponsored by the Founders' Fund as a family celebration for the
Signal Mountain community to recognize all of the hard work and
accomplishments made by the mountaintop families in association with
the new middle/high school.
The free event featured a carnival-like set up with booths sponsored
and manned by the Signal Mountain Tackle Football League, the Cub
and Boy Scouts (Pack 3116), the Signal Mountain Middle School
Cheerleaders and numerous parent volunteers. The children had their
choice of two inflatables: a bouncy school bus and a 51 foot
obstacle course.
Mid-afternoon, Wyldlife, a middle school ministry of Young Life,
took to the field with crazy games involving both children and
parents. Two rather unusual looking referees fired the games up and
had everyone laughing with their antics. The rousing conclusion
included the flour bombing of a lot of parents to the amusement of
all the children.
The Family Fun Day committee included Tracy McHugh, Beth Dowling,
Alice Greer, Susan Wickizer and Leigh Althaus.
“We had wonderful weather during the event and that helped boost
attendance,” said Lisa Hawkins, event coordinator. “It was so great
to see families from all over the mountain sporting their Red, Black
and Silver in celebration of the new school”, said volunteer Susan
Wickizer. Local support from Mountain Top Toys and Sitton
Construction made it possible to host the event at no charge to the
public.
